Military Contract Fraud
In recent years, whistleblowers have brought forth information about fraudulent billing and cheating on government contracts which have resulted in millions of dollars in recovery.
“Each year, billions of dollars in taxpayer money is awarded to companies providing weapons, products, services and technology to the U.S. armed forces.”
Sometimes, the fraud relates to billing for services not performed, for example private contractors working for the government in Afghanistan who were supposed to provide security services but weren’t. Other times, it relates to sub-standard quality, as in the case of a satellite manufacturer which sold the government known defective parts. That also happened in the case of a telephone company which sold the government thousands of phones which it knew simply didn’t work. In all of these situations, the government investigated information brought by a whistleblower and eventually the claims settled for millions of dollars.
